Welcome, 2018!

It’s actually sort of a happy accident that I’m launching a new version of my site on New Year’s Day, but I’ve managed to redirect my website to what was originally supposed to be a testing ground for a WordPress-based site-in-development, so I guess it was meant to go live early.  I’m still getting products and pages posted, so if you happen to stumble upon something that’s broken or seems unfinished, let me know – I’d love an extra set of eyes.

While I’m not exactly one for “resolutions”, exactly, I’m heading into 2018 with goals and intentions and that’s more or less the same idea.  I’m hoping to make 2018 a year of growth for this little business of mine as a freelance artist.  I’ve got some ideas for art pieces, and I’ve started this blog to share updates and tutorials, so I hope you’ll follow along with me!

I also intend to support artists and small businesses whenever possible.  I know how exciting it is to get that notification alert on my phone when I’ve made a sale, and I want to share that feeling!  I also know that when you shop from a small business, you’re helping support a family – maybe you’re paying a little piece of a vet bill or helping pay for a child’s soccer lessons – instead of lining the pockets of some CEO with a Lamborghini.

Shop Small Business!

And this is the most exciting part, I think:  2018 is going to be a year of charitable giving, as well.  Going forward, I will be donating 10% of my sales to a different charity or non-profit each month.

I’m starting with Rancho Relaxo, a non-profit animal sanctuary in New Jersey.  I’ve been following the founder, Caitlin, on Instagram for the better part of a year and I’m constantly amazed by her.  I’ve watched her walk through slaughter auctions with her heart in her throat, bearing witness and rescuing who she can.  I’ve watched her sob for the ones who didn’t make it.  I’ve watched her nurturing baby animals who were too young to survive without a ‘mother’, and I’ve watched her strolling through the farm with animals following along at her heels.

For all of January, 10% of any sales made in my online shop (including sales on Amazon or Etsy!) will be donated to Rancho Relaxo.  And that’s not all!  I’ve also created a set of four 5×7″ watercolor prints featuring some of the animals of Rancho Relaxo – Chewie, Potato, Dragonlord, and Halona – and 50% of sales from the set will be given to Rancho Relaxo for as long as they’re in stock, so order yours today and let’s help save the animals together while also decorating your house with art!
